Ian Irvine

Ian Irvine, an Australian marine scientist, has also written 31 novels and a book of short stories.

Ian is best known for his Three Worlds epic fantasy sequence for older readers, which has been published in many languages and has sold over a million copies. Book 1 of the long-awaited sequel to The View from the Mirror quartet, The Summon Stone, will be published by Hachette in May 2016.

Ian has also written a trilogy of eco-thrillers, Human Rites, set in a near-future Earth suffering catastrophic climate change. Ominously, many of the things he wrote about in the first editions, published between 2000 and 2004, have since come true.

Ian has written 13 novels for younger readers: the Sorcerer’s Tower quartet, the Grim and Grimmer quartet and the Runcible Jones quartet, and The Last Christmas. You can find out more about these books here: Children's Books by Ian

Ian has worked as a marine scientist all his adult life. In the 1970s he carried out research on climatic change and past ice ages occurring in the past 3 million years. In 1974 he began investigating pollution in the sediments of Sydney Harbour. Ian has been working on the environmental management of contaminated sediments, a worldwide problem, ever since.
